What is Barytes? - Barytes StatisticsIntroduction | Uses of Barytes | Benefits of Barytes | Barytes Statistics World production is broadly linked to oil-well drilling activity and has increased from 6.0- 6.5Mtpa in the early 2000s to 7.5 - 8.5 Mt from 2004 through 2008; but fell back to 6.2 Mt in 2009 during the world recession recovering to around 7.0Mt in 2010. China accounts for around 52% of world production with India, USA, Morocco and Mexico accounting for a further 33%. The USA is the largest consumer at around 1.65 million tpa currently and China some 1.2 million tpa. EU-27 consumption is around 0.65 million tpa of which around 25% is sourced domestically. However 75% of the production is into added-value markets so a significant proportion is an export earner, and a higher proportion of the oil-well industry requirement imported.
