China accounts for around 57% of world production with India, USA, Morocco and Mexico accounting for a further 28%. The USA is the largest consumer at around 3.2 million tpa currently and China some 1.2 million tpa. EU-27 consumption is around 0.8 million tpa of which around 24% is sourced
domestically. However 75% of the production is into added-value markets
so a significant proportion is an export earner, and a higher proportion
of the oil-well industry requirement imported. Germany, Bulgaria and UK
